In the end we didn't have gelati after dinner at Notturno's, cause we bought a couple of drinks to the lounge at my place and watched tv instead. Don't ever buy the turkey brand bourbon whisky with coke. It's the diluted cheapo and inferior version of chivas. After a while, most of them left, except for gy, joey, jansen and me (obviously... it's my place), so we went upstairs to my room to play cards. That was around 11pm. Then joey got a phone call from batman, saying that his laptop had disappeared. Apparently his place was burglared into and the laptop stolen, along with the laptop case, the adapter (smart chap), the laptop lock, $6, and a pack of Malboro cigarettes. Previously there were already cases of burglary in that building and the adjacent one, so joey and batman bought a $50 laptop lock, and locked their laptops to the heater. It didn't quite work. Btw, that's the building I'm about to move into. I'm reconsidering my options now.
Anw, joey and gy left immediately after we got the news, and jansen stayed to talk to me about some of the problems he had with his gf. Halfway through, I called gy, and she said they just made a police report over the phone. Jansen and I were feeling unsettled, so we walked down to their place. On the way there, gy called twice, saying that the police had already found the chap with the booty and that they were to go collect his laptop, but only in the morning the next day. We went down anw, to see the scene of crime. Ended up at a pub near their place for a second round of drinks. Good atmosphere: quiet and spacious, but the drinks were diluted. I bet I can make better ones.
We went home after that, at 1am. Slept at 1.30am, woke up at 4.45am and couldn't get back to sleep. Was supposed to wake up at 6am and meet the rest at fed square at 7.30am, so decided to get up instead. And so, the 8 of us had a class outing to the richmond police station. Statement-taking was quite long, so we had breakfast at mac's while waiting. Turns out that the bloke was spotted in the area around the police station carrying many laptop bags, and kena stopped and questioned by the police. Note: he was smoking Malboro cigarettes. I think batman was more pissed off that the burglar took his cigarettes and smoked it, than saddened over the loss of his laptop. He's damn lucky to get most of his stuff back. He also told the police that he usually doesn't remove the foil from his packet of cigarettes due to habit, when most people usually do. The police checked that packet of cigarettes found on the burglar and true enough, the foil was still intact. Then the policeman got excited, according to hongyao. Maybe he's finally due for a promotion after solving a case. Anyhow, it's definitely batman's laptop because when the police called him, they told him the laptop found had a name: Lin Hongyao. Ok, that was obvious.
As to how the burglar managed to get his looty, no one can tell for sure. Or rather, the police wouldn't divulge much except for a few brief details. Apparently, the locks at sha (his place) are quite worn out and pretty loose, so it's quite easy to pick. After making sure no one's inside, the burglar would head straight for the laptop and its accesories. Prying the lock from the laptop (the laptop's a bit damaged at the side now), he took the lock off and away as well. Gy, joey and batman went round to the other apartments to enquire and inform about the incident, and found out that someone had actually seen the burglar, and even stopped and questioned him about his presence in the building. The burglar turned out to be an ang moh, and he was smoking Malboro cigarettes while in the building. (Previously we thought it might be a vietnamese, cause Richmond is a viet area.) Anw, that student was worried about his own flat, so he quickly went up to check his room, but everything was intact. By the time he went down again, that fellow had already walked out smoking the Malboro cigarettes...
He's really lucky to get his laptop back. The previous few cases, the owners didn't even make any police report cause they didn't think it would help matters. What a waste. The last time su san lost her laptop, that person actually went online on her msn and asked joey who the owner of the laptop is, and returned it to her. Cool huh.

This picture was taken at a CSS 2006 Trivarsity Retreat at The Church of St. Teresa, by a fellow retreat cum CSS member.
Besides its bluish hue, I love how the shot was taken: from the church looking out to the city. We are often attracted by
the excitement that this world has to offer, but we should often be reminded that as Catholics, it is important
to look back at our selves to reflect, and to turn to God as often as it possible. For we are, afterall, children of God.
I thought of replacing this picture when I lost my template, but I could not find another so full of meaning and beauty to me.
It reminds me of my identities and roles - my spirituality, my God, my home, the people who read this blog, and of my own beauty.
