I went to visit Calvin in SGH yesterday, along with doris, peizhen, chemin and shaoying. He looked different, but I expect his humour was left intact. It was a bit awkward and sad wondering what to say, especially for peizhen, doris and huiting who were quite close to him. Soon after we reached him, my phone rang. Dad called and told me popo had a heart attack and I had better rush down to AH to see her, probably for the last time.
So drama. Anw, I rushed out of the ward, booked a cab, got into it, and told the uncle to drive to AH. He laughed when he heard that, "Wah, from one hospital to another ah?"
When I got there, her condition was critical and the doctor said she wouldn't last through the night, and even so, that was the most. True enough, she passed away just before 10pm. She was 84 years old. She was suffering from lymph node cancer, and was going for radiotherapy. I think her body didn't take that well. She was having giddy spells, loss of appetite and didn't drink much water. She died partly due to dehydration as well, so at the end she had renal failure too, which led to an acute myocardial infarction. So people, please drink more water.
Just after the Father took her home, we stood there and said the rosary. Weird that we did, because just after we saw her and everyone started crying, I was reminded of the verse '...send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears...'. Then after that when she died we said the rosary.
I guess you could call us blessed in some ways. A month ago I was contemplating if I should come home this hols, since it is expensive to do so. My cousin is an air stewardess with SIA and closer to my grandma than I am, and she touched down just yesterday morning. Also, though the going was hard, I'm glad my grandma didn't have to suffer much more from the effects of radiotherapy for the long term.
Away from the sobbing and mourning and back to business. For the adults, there's the wake, funeral and cremation to attend to. For the younger generations, I suppose there's only the cancelling of affairs to settle.
I'm glad we're all taking it well. Except for my grandfather I suppose. I dunno why people are surprised by his display of affection towards her at her going. I don't find it surprising. I hope he's fine and that his sorrow doesn't affect his health that much. Btw, he's currently in AH too, for blockage of the bile duct due to a growth there. That's another blessing, that they were both in the same hospital. At least it was convenient for him and he could stay with her much longer than if he were at a different hospital.

This picture was taken at a CSS 2006 Trivarsity Retreat at The Church of St. Teresa, by a fellow retreat cum CSS member.
Besides its bluish hue, I love how the shot was taken: from the church looking out to the city. We are often attracted by
the excitement that this world has to offer, but we should often be reminded that as Catholics, it is important
to look back at our selves to reflect, and to turn to God as often as it possible. For we are, afterall, children of God.
I thought of replacing this picture when I lost my template, but I could not find another so full of meaning and beauty to me.
It reminds me of my identities and roles - my spirituality, my God, my home, the people who read this blog, and of my own beauty.

mood: resigned
song in her head: wants to give you up. she knows you're not the one. not the one who understands her. not the one who wants to support her and love her for all her imperfections.
