On my first day at work, there was a dissection going on in the Pathology department. So I dropped in to have a look, and they were dissecting a Brolga. Click here to see what a Brolga looks like.
They think this Brolga died due to trauma, could be from getting caught in a fence or attacked by other male Brolgas. From this dissection I learnt that some birds have winding tracheas that looked like trumpets (to allow them to do a trumpet call during mating), and that male birds generally have 2 testicles in their body, compared to one ovary in a female bird.
That oversized labcoat does not belong to me. They have a few spare ones around so I just grabbed it and used it. Padraig Duignan is one of my Pathology lecturers, and he does a fair bit of wildlife pathology, particularly in marine animals. I almost look apologetic in my smile.

This picture was taken at a CSS 2006 Trivarsity Retreat at The Church of St. Teresa, by a fellow retreat cum CSS member.
Besides its bluish hue, I love how the shot was taken: from the church looking out to the city. We are often attracted by
the excitement that this world has to offer, but we should often be reminded that as Catholics, it is important
to look back at our selves to reflect, and to turn to God as often as it possible. For we are, afterall, children of God.
I thought of replacing this picture when I lost my template, but I could not find another so full of meaning and beauty to me.
It reminds me of my identities and roles - my spirituality, my God, my home, the people who read this blog, and of my own beauty.
